Moving to full frame - Lens help please! :)

Why would you NOT get the Nikon 16-35f4 unless you need ultra ultra wide ?

Ok, it is a heavy lump of glass and, as mentioned above, it is a bit distorted at the wide end.

Otherwise, this lens gives great images with good colour, contrast , sharpness etc..

The ability to take reasonably-priced filters might also be important, unlike the 14-24f2.8.

Didn't realise he had that as well. Had nearly a full kit already then ;)

Because the 18-35mm is cheaper, lighter and (arguably) sharper ;) :p

Good point(s) raised above. I do though think every mm counts at the wide end and personally prefer fixed aperture lenses. Doubt that any reasonable person would be unhappy with a 16-35. I may be wrong, of course ?
 
I'm not reasonable! I have (and use regularly) a 14mm f/2.8 and an 8mm f/4 as well as a Mk1 Sigma 12-24. As said above, at the wide end a couple of mm makes a big difference, especially on FF.

The 16-35mm is a very capable lens indeed so I'm with you on that one.
 
Do the 14mm's have focus confirmation? I know they're simple enough to use but just thought i would ask.

Also, are there any filter systems available for it with it being a sticky outy front element?

The Nikon ones are chipped so you do get AF confirmation.

There is a filter holder available, which they have been bundling with the lens recently, which you can buy separately.

The new Lee SW150 mk2 filter holder is also compatible.
 
OP, if I were you I'd get a decent camera so you can use a proper Canon lens ;)

Haha yes I discovered this when the chap that bought it tried it on his d600!!
Never mind Ill try not to dwell on it too much, as the sale of it has gone towards... A Sigma 15-30!!!
Thanks for everyone's really helpful comments you've helped me loads and I do appreciate all your responses. I took all the lenses suggested and plugged them into eBay and Gumtree etc and found the 15-30 just 5.4 miles from me so I went and tried it yesterday and had it and although I've not given it a proper opportunity to show me what it can do, I have been pleased with the practice snaps it's created.

No I have nothing against canon, just first slr I used was a nikon so I guess I've always just stuck with them :)
Maybe one day I'll see the light eh ;)

You've seen the light. You can have the smug satisfaction that you have a camera with one of the best AF systems, imo the best colour tones that Nikon have produced and better than the 5d3, stunning shadow recovery, lightweight, and superb dynamic range ;) :p

(why is there no 'devil' emoticon on this forum?) ;)
