I guys currently researching dslr's for first time buyer. Read all the reviews and great advice on the forum. What I want to know is I want to be able to have my pictures printed on to canvas or for large frames I'm looking at A1 size roughly. What is the best MP size to give me sharp prints? Also can anyone recommend a entry/mid range camera?
Phil

Different cameras don't vary much in their number of megapixels. Most are around 18mp which will give you about 150dpi at A1 size. That is a little lower than full print quality but perfectly fine for a canvas. More important would be a good lens capable of producing that quality.

I'm in to landscape photography what lens would recommend either for Canon or Nikon as these would be the 2 I'd be looking at?

For canon something like the canon 10-22 as most people use the ultra wide angle for landscapes. You will be spending a lot of money if you are looking for the best so work out what your budget is and go from there.

I wouldn't agree with "most people use the ultra wide angle for landscapes". Plenty of good shots will use UWA's, but equally, plenty will be taken with telephoto's as well.

UWA lens have there own characteristics but if you're not taking good landscapes with your standard lens, then UWA will just have more low quality stuff in the shot.

Thanks guys just wondering what your thoughts are on the new Nixon d3200 compared to the nixon d5100?? What do you think is a good camera for getting the best landscape pictures?

I think you read my comment a bit backward. I was saying most people who use the UWA use it for landscape shots not most people who shoot landscapes use a UWA. It can be useful indoors to get everything in but it's not such a common use as the deficiencies of the UWA are more noticeable.

One thats mounted on a tripod.

Seriously, pretty much any current DSLR will be able to produce landscape (or any other) images perfectly acceptably.

Your use of light, compositional skills, selection of aperture size will have much more of an effect when you're starting out. And even when you're finally holding the Canon 1dMk V or whatever, those compositional skills will be as important as ever.

Just choose a camera within a budget you are happy spending and that you like. Go and have a play in the shop maybe.

Hi. I think Keith is right about MP size. Remember that when you print to A1 size you don't need 300dpi. As viewing distance increases, resolution can be lower. My footie pics get printed at A1 (at least in part) and most of them are a bit cropped from 15mp.
