Much difference?

Apart from the price, is there much difference between a:

50mm 1.8 and a 50mm 1.4?? and also is it worth having both in your bag or a bit overkill??

Overkill, 1.4 is better built but that's about it, I'm not bothering upgrading to the 1.4, I'll stick to the 1.8

Not to mention the 2/3rd of a stop you gain, better DoF, AF-S motor and probably better sharpness at 1.8

Remember this is the nikon one. Sharper than canon's 50/1.4 and without the focus issues.

Ive got the 50mm 1.4 AF-S. At 1.4 its a bit soft. At 1.8 and above its great.
Its bigger and heavier than the 1.8, and focus' is a bit faster. If money is no issue, get the 1.4, other wise, get the 1.8 and be very happy with it.

No need for both, the 50mm F/1.4 does more and better
