Yes I too would say send it to the Canon camera hospital, it's not terminaly ill yet.

Great camera as you know and well worth getting fixed.
 
Thanks Gents, Thank goodness for my 5D as a back-up...

Sadly, Canon is not an option down here in S.A. Will have to send to local guy or another 3rd party crowd that don't excite me half a bit...

Will let you know.

My 1dmk2(non s) did the same not long ago. Pain in the bum, but finally getting round to having it repaired.
 
If mine threw a hizzy I'd get it fixed.

OP - could you not send it to the UK to get it fixed, Elstree do have a great reputation? Maybe if they would do it but not send back to SA you could send it here and get one of us to act as intermediary, be a slower process but maybe worth it.

Well, it is being couriered to the nearest Canon approved repair centre as we speak...nearly 500 miles away.

MatBin, I would send it to the U.K. for repairs any day but the shipping would be more than the job and let's just not talk about customs issues...

Now just to hope the glass filters over the sensor are OK...

If shutter only it will be around GBP 250 in ZAR equivalent.

Too true! Can't wait to have it back. Things are looking good, should have it back sometime next week if all goes well.
 
UPDATE EVERYONE!!

Got my baby back AT LAST!!! Fresh shutter and good to go. Ended up to be shutter only, low pass filters are fine and I was told in no uncertain terms that the shutter could have gone due to prolonged periods in the bag...

Now to get that one past the missus!:D
