I wish I didn't have to go to work.
I owned a 400D last year and while living over in Cyprus I managed to pop a spring out of the auto-focus mirror that I ended up getting repaired on returning to the UK for £150. I was a little hurt from the experience and sold on the camera to raise cash for living expenses; a camera down, a hobby lost.
Only recently have I been able to find some funds that tempted me enough to get back into the world of the tog and I picked up a used 40D + 17-85mm IS EF-S from eBay on what was a Good Friday

with 13k shutter actuations - and after buying all the extras including filters, lens hood and remote shutter it came to just over £600.
Well, the whole lot arrived in the mail today and I'm a bit taken back. I know it's been over 10 months since I've had a DSLR to play with but I can't believe the improvement in quality in pretty much everything over the 400D. It's almost to the point of intimidation. I felt like a complete ass when I turned it on for the first time, flicked straight over to manual mode and couldn't figure out how the hell to change the aperture. The picture quality improvement is immediate but I have noticed it really makes you work for good shots - you can take a couple of test shots and it's like it says to you that it has it all there, it's just waiting for you to go out and find the shot that it's made for. I think it's going to be quite difficult, and I can't wait. Many days walking over the limited green fields around here are going to be spent with my new acquaintance on my hip learning just what can be done if you take the time to learn and experiment.
Like I said, it's still taken me back a little bit. It's going to take me a while to get back up to speed and really break out it's potential and get some worthwhile shots... but it'll be worth it and I couldn't look forward to it more.
