Hey all,

today I was busy with some work (essays :gag:) when i heard a really loud popping noise. Came from the floor area behind me, but I didn't think too much of it. Then, I decided I wanted to take a photo of something on my desk, so I picked up my camera from (yeah you guessed it) the floor area behind me. AND IT REFUSED TO TURN ON :( I tried replacing the battery, and all that happened was the screen turned on, insofar as it was lit, but there was nothing on the (black) screen.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Any idea what this might be? Any idea what I should do? Will be calling Canon in the morning, and hopefully send it off for repairs or something soon. I'm just really puzzled as I've never dropped my camera, never soaked it in water, etc, I've just been taking very good care of it!

Also, with regard to repairs, any idea what the turn around time for Canon repairs is? its summer term! i'm afraid that by the time the camera comes back the term would be over and I'll miss all the fantastic photo opportunities that come with puntings and picnics and etc. :(

Am slightly depressed right now :bang:

Is it still in warrenty?

Take it to wherever you bought it if so...

So it made a noise even though it wasn't turned on?

There is a place in Colchester that advertises Canon repair, but daresay it will be costly and not that quick

Don't worry though, its going to be another crappy summer so you won't miss anything

Have you any accidental damage cover on your contents insurance?

And once you get your camera fixed, call for an exorcist. :D Having poltergeists in your house is proving to be a very expensive business. :runaway: :D

But being serious now, I'm gutted for you and hope your 450D does get sorted. :)

I've sent it back to Canon, but the repair has been processing for the last 3 days :( I know its not a lot of time, but i do feel rather anxious!

It was just that one popping noise. I just wished i KNEW what was wrong. As if that would change anything but hey!

Thanks Ian for the poltergeist comment, it made me LOL. also it made me think of slimer haha.

Thanks for all the comments guys, hopefully I'll be able to round off the thread with:

I GOT IT BACK, IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER!!!

...soon.

eew, :gag: known to fail, really? how does it get triggered? or it just does it spontaneously??

maybe i should use this as an excuse to upgrade when it comes back...
