Is it worth opening the flash (properly), and then giving the camera body near where we believe the sensor to be (I would guess at a microswitch) a gentle tap or too?
It is only a nikon anyway
(or rather, I should say, it can't really make it any worse)

The video is good. I removed the flash cover and immediately saw the issue.

the bush that the flash pivots on also has the pin attached. So the bush has popped inside the camera body a bit , meaning that the flash isn't so secure on that side, and the pin is too far inside the body to activate the switch.

looks like it will need to go for repair, since the only way to pop the bush back through is by taking the camera body apart.

just to finish the thread off, i phoned the whatever happens number and they arranged repair, two days later the packaging and instructions turned up.

almost exactly 14 days from collection i now have camera back fully repaired.

can't fault the service at all and would recommend it to anyone.

i bought a 3rd gen ggs screen protector set to treat it on its return, so i fitted that then stuck on my 24-70, and wow!

more than likely a big dose of placebo, but the shots look waaay sharper. i always struggled to get sharp shots with this lens, but it's bob on every time :shrug: . more than likely i'm just imagining it.

good to have the camera back, i didn't realise how much i'de miss not having a camera

Pleased you got it sorted :thumbs: and double pleased the warranty is good as I have the same one on my D90 :thumbs: :thumbs:

As for the sharper photos they would have just turned the 'Sharper/Better Photos' adjuster that's hidden behind the duffer just beside the thingy-me-jigg :D
