My camera is wrote off :(

I had some focus problems with my D90 so sent it off for repair. I just phoned for an update and been told its been wrote off :( Kind of sad in a way as I really liked my D90

Anyway they have given me £800 to spend and I already had around £600 saved so I am unsure what to go for. I was thinking of a D7000 but would love a D600. Biggest problem with D600 is my current lenses are not full frame lenses so would I still get the benefits of the D600 being cropped like that.

So should I go for the D7000 and have money left (for maybe more lenses in the future)

Or

Go for the D600 and use all my savings and use my current lenses

Sigma 24-60mm f/ 2.8 EX DG
Nikon 50mm Prime
Nikon 80-200mm F2.8
Plus I have been left with my D90 Kit lens (18-105 Nikon VR lens)

All the lenses you've listed there are FF lenses aren't they, with the exception of the 18-105
 
the 50mm prime definitely is full frame. Sigma DG are full frame, DC are for crop.

so go ahead and get full frame, it'd be the best upgrade you've done.
 
Even if they weren't I'd hazard the D600 in crop mode would be pretty decent. The D800 in crop mode is the best DX camera Nikon make!
 
John, your Sigma is a DG lens (according to your post) so is FF compatible. You don't give the full designations of the Nikkor lenses but unless they're marked Dx, they should be OK for FF use. A bit of Googling shows the 80-200 as being non-Dx, so should be OK and IIRC, none of the 50s are Dx either. Check your own copies to make sure though! Your kit lens will almost certainly be a Dx one though, so you'll have a gap between 60mm and 80mm - not a huge problem, probably. FF is a wonderful place to be, although you may miss the apparent extra reach a Dx body gives. Cropping in PP will bring this back to a large extent if you miss it (at the loss of some pixels) as will setting a FF body to shoot in Dx mode. (BTW, your kit lens will work on a FF body but will vignette (especially at the wide end) unless the body's set to Dx mode.)
 
OK right thanks you folks....you learn something new. I will double check my lenses.

So how does the D7000 compare to the D600 is the D600 a BIG jump up to be worth nearly twice as much ?
 
Don't think many people with the Sigma 85mm f1.4 will tell you Sigma FF is naff ... seems like a rather blanket and incorrect statement TBH if that's how it's intended.

Well I think he mentioned the 24-60 not the 85mm

But my word 'naff' is not meant to offend fellow sigma owners. I use my Sigma all the time for weddings and its excellent :thumbs:
 
D700. It's still an utterly awesome beast of a camera.
 
I would agree - a few of the best shots ive taken have been on a sigma lens i borrowed from a friend and i liked it.
 
John, it may be worth looking in the classifieds and seeing if there's a suitable camera in there and asking the seller if they'll take your Currys/PCW voucher in part payment - a seller might possibly be after a new set of kitchen appliances or an expensive computer (Apple, anyone?) so be willing to do a deal like that. The worst that can happen is that the seller can say No.
