My Canon 5D MKii has the hicups

Hi :wave:

My canon 5d mkII seems to blink or hicup when in portrait orientation 90 degrees clockwise. Ive only noticed it when my 70-200 was on it today but it only does it in that orientation and not the other way. Ive tried it with IS on and off and it still does it am i doing something wrong :shrug: or is my camera/lens need attention :eek:

If i look through the viewfinder its sort of jumping and making a noise thats halfway between a shutter actuation and the IS kicking in a bit like that max headroon fella remember him all glitchy and repetative. Its not just happening on the tripod it happened handheld to, yet doesnt happen when i turn it counter clockwise.

Sounds more likely to be the lens than the camera to be honest if it's the sound of the IS.

Have you tried rotating the camera alongside your ear to see if the noise can be narrowed down to lens or camera?

How about another lens?
 
Will go and try again now and report back tomorrow

It seems to be the lens:eek: it makes the image (or yet to be taken image) blink in the view finder constantly, has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution

must be the IS control. if you have the IS set to normal (so does up down left right) and pan with it then it will jump in the viewfinder because it is trying to correct the movement. mode2 is for panning so will only work in one direction - it should detect wither it is portrait or landscape orientation.

Turn the IS off and see if it does it, does it only do it in mode 1 or mode 2?
 
The IS works fine as i can hear it when switched on, but i think its not the IS as this blinking/glitching/flicking in the viewfinder happens when its turned off to. Just thought someone might have experienced this before or am i the only one :thinking:

Only does it in portrait mode...

Just a thought - you aren't pressing the depth of field preview button and seeing the aperture change?

Oh and moving to equipment...

and its only the 70-200 thats doing it?
 
But when its switched off the IS shouldnt work should it :thinking: and whats baffling is why this is only doing it in clockwise portrait not counter or landscape. Any idea where i could send this to be looked at.
