Yes
I know loads of people have made DIY grids but I thought I would share this as I made it from a tomato sauce bottle

Just cut the ends off and glued the straws in

Its not pretty and probably needs painting black or something

The photos below were taken with manual flash and the camera on manual. I thought I might use it for off camera work

I know the first photo photo is way over exposed and the second under but I did the grid shot first (all manual) and left the settings exactly as they were with the flash pointing directly at subject the same as with the grid on so you can see a direct comparison

it was actually strangely therapeutic sitting out in the sunshine glueing staws to each other

Certain repetitive tasks allow the mind to stop having to focus so much with minimal stress.

As for the straws - what do they do? Presumably for flash. Do they "polarise" the light or something?

Like it, have been meaning to do this my self.

Thanks..... yeah I have seen loads of tutorials online but I just thought there must be an easier way than cutting up cardboard. I did have a cornflakes box sorted but it was thrown away by accident then I noticed the tomato sauce bottle and thought that looks about the same size as the head of the flash.

It just slides on great with not need for tap or Velcro etc

Of course you could have shorter straws for a wider light, I might make another that is shorter or cut this one down
