Yes
well I got a couple of shot via live view but this is whats happening.

is this worth a repair or should sell as bits and get a 7d?

if this image says its a cheap fix then i will go that route. but to me it looks like the sensor maybe?

I put a border on this image to stress the bottom part of the pic.

If the sensors were not working then that stripe should be black; since it's white I'm guessing they're all working but in effect overexposing that portion of the image.

Might be a software fix, but more likely a replacement sensor.
Take it to the shop where you bought it (your first port of call is the retailer you bought from, not the manufacturer) and get them to have a look and make you an estimate.

i bought it from a member on here Rob so don't have the option for the shop :(

hmm would a sensor be pricey repair?

David,

Have you tried a different memory card? I vaguely remember seeing something like this in another place and it was a faulty card.

Hope that helps :)

Error 99 means an unspecified error - the camera knows something is wrong, but it doesn't know what is wrong.

Try:

different memory card, full reset, different lens.

Does the white band show up in live view as well?

I've had similar and a memory card format cured it so I hope it's that simple.

woof woof. Just seen your bio - congratulations on retirement you old b****r... technology (and the people that use it) has already driven me to the edge after just two years

long time until I can retire, especially on my wage :help:

Thanks, you'll get there but be careful as it can suck you in... I just decided that I wasn't enjoying work or feeling challenged any more and decided to pursue other goals and experiences. So far I haven't regretted it for a single second.

Unlike computers and other toys art forms even if they utilise technology have no definite end or answer and are an ongoing and never ending challenge, that appeals to me.

As said try the reformat, different memory card of course, but also try re flashing the firmware, the firmware can be downloaded from the canon site, just make sure you have a fully charged battery fitted when doing it and remove the grip if one is fitted.

If that fails then its off to canon or sell as is and upgrade.

Error 99 is ashutter prob,,

I had iError 99 ,my 400d a clip came off the mirror, and got lodge in the shutter,

Canon Essex fixed it within 4 days back to me

Ok I have tried the reformated card, several cards, new battery both import and genuine types, all my lens get the same result including my m42 which doesn't read on the camera, the only thing i havn't tried is the reflash

is there a way of doing this as i currently have the latest release already installed? will the camera just overwrite without telling me i have the latest version?
