Here a couple taken yesterday at Bristol Zoo, I was using my Canon 400D with my 55-200mm MkII

#1 - Lion

superb composition in both
frames a tad wide for my taste
and I think the contrast is a little low
try boosting and see what you think

I agree with pretty much everything mmpc said... I hope you don't mind, but I did a 2 second job in PS on them. The gorilla could use a little more work, but I definitely think they benefit from increasing the contrast and a little sharpening.

Great compositions though!

Thankx for the input.

I have tendency to be a bit over cautious when it comes to contrast, as a result things to end up a bit flat.

TomB can you tell me what you did?

The lion was quite simply a case of boosting contrast (I think by about 40%, can't really remember though), and then a quick unsharp mask (100%, 2.0, threshold 5 I think, again not entirely sure). Similar with the gorilla, but I think it could use some more subtle work to different areas. I also added a small catchlight to the eye on the right hand side to balance the lighting a little (just cloned from the left hand eye).
 
The gorilla reminds me of all those Giant Ape films.. which is a good thing :)
 
I like both and nice to see the lions paws in that first shot ..well done
 
As said above really like the composition for the lion shot great stuff (y)
 
Nice shots the gorilla is my fav though the lion comes pretty close
