I'm off to Jessops tomorrow to get my first digital slr. I cant decide, do i get the nikon D90, which i have read is a good entry level camera, or do i pay a little bit extra and get the 7000 model? Will the 7000 be to complicated for a new comer to dsl's. Any advice much appreciated.:bonk:

Both are pretty much on par when it comes to user friendliness, they are both aimed at the same sort of market. The D90 is the top end budget prosumer model, and the D7000 is the bottom end semi pro/sumer.

Both cameras have scene modes to get you started, so it shouldnt be an issue with either one.

As said above both are good cameras but you should invest in a good lens to get the desired outcome with the photos.

Assuming they both have similar bodies and set-up's go for the cheaper option and put the rest of the money towards good glass?
I'm not familiar with these two models as I use Canon myself, but I wouldn't think there is actually much difference between them for a beginner so with the five hundred pounds you can save by getting the D90 you'll be able to get some better lenses, accessories or whatever.
The D90 has fantastic reviews for a beginners camera so you will get on great with it, and it will last you a long time.

Dont just settle on Nikon, pick up and play about with all the Slr's they have on display. Within your budget ofcourse. i originally set out to buy a Nikon D5000 and came home with a Canon 500D, It just felt better in my hands. That is unless your going to get a nikon cause you had film and are a loyal customer with them :P

In terms of picture quality, there is no significant difference between cameras within the same price band. Or even quite a long way either side of it for that matter. You pay for features, like a fold-out screen and video and build quality.

They all work the same way - even a £5k DSLR is just as easy to use as a £300 entry level one.

The things that will really make a difference to your picture taking is different lenses and a decent flash gun.

Edit: I would stick with Nikon or Canon ;)

There is a pretty significant difference in image quality at high iso. The d7000 is better in that respect, but both will produce excellent images as standard. The video on the d7000 is supposedly better too if that's your thing. Whichever you choose will serve you well for many years.

i can strongly reccomend the d90,iam 56 years old, this is my first dslr, and i am a bit of a technophobe, and i find it really straightforward to use, just ask questions on here if you are not sure about anything, someone will help you out, read everything about it as you possibly can, study the tutorials on utube just try to get as much knowledge as possible, i actually bought a book before the camera, taking good pictures is a different matter,ah ah. you will love it! also have a look on camerapricebuster probably save a bit
