My First Phtos

Hi all,
Im a complete noob to photgraphy having just got my first "real" camera a Nikon D5000, with the stock lens,

These are my first attempts at playing with it, images were taken in my back garden on RAW then processed in Light Room.

like the first for it's odd angle, though the sky is burnt out.

the second I like for it's abstract nature, though I'd crop it differently, as the focus is in the centre.

first one is way over exposed in the background, nice processing on the the eyes.
2nd i think is a little lost in hte background, if it is a minimalist shot then the background is too busy, would work better on a closer crop or a plain background,
