Treated myself to a new Canon 7D this week thanks to quite a hefty PPI claim being paid.

I've heard loads of people talking about how good their prime lenses are so I thought why not. Using The Camera Price Buster website I found the Canon 50mm F1.8 for £74.94 from Amazon. Bargain!

It arrived in 2 days and boy have I been missing out! It's without doubt the fastest, sharpest lens I've ever owned. Got some pics of my youngest (7 month old) that my old Sony could never of produced.

I'm sure loads if will have been using lenses like this for years but if anyone hasn't, then for the price i reckon it's a must have in everyones bag :thumbs:

Coupled with my 7D it's an awesome combo.
 
Welcome to the 7D club first of all, and the nifty fifty club secondly. I know what you mean about image quality. I've only been a member of both clubs a few weeks but together they are a formidable pair. Keep meaning to get out to your area to get some plane pictures. I'm a couple of miles from Waddington but there's hardly any decent photo opportunities compared to Coningsby.
 
Thanks Stuart. I'm more than happy with my purchases. The mrs on the other hand can't get over the fact that my camera equipment is worth more our car :lol:

There's plenty of spots around the base to photograph the aircraft and there's usually something flying most days. Plus in the summer BBMF are always up and about :thumbs:
 
primes are great...i think to be honest i like them more than zooms. Sure, zooms often seem more 'convinient', but there's definitely something special about producing killer shots @ f/1.8 (or even 1.4!).

Especially for portrait stuff.
