HI and welcome you need to put the camera on a long exposure and defo a tripod its impossible to keep the think still !
hope this helps i was the same last april!!! this site will help you loads just make a piont to keep coming back to ask ? someone will help
someone will explain it better then me after all i only started last april

Its great that you know about the idea behind car trails, but you really need a tripod as deb says. You can even rest it on something but do not touch the camera when you do this. Next time you try it place the camera on a 10 second delay, f11, 15 second shutter speed, 100 ISO. Place the camera on something where you dont need to hold it, and when you see a car coming press the shutter, wait 10 seconds car goes past, equal a great photo. :) Thats my tip for next time.

Ok, by the sound of it you havnt read the manual. :nono:

Have a quick scan on manual mode. Look how to change the shutter speed, aperture and iso. Read it so you can do it off by heart. Then look how to set a delay. Put in the settings I told you then try again. :)

You can pick up a cheap tripod for less than £15, asda do them. Failing that, rest it on something, and use the timer so that you don;t need to touch, and so move, the camera to take the shot.

ou probably have it in S mode, which alters the amount of time the shutter if open for. Try 5 seconds and you may get the car as it goes all the way along the street.

Looks like you are having fun, keep playing, and use the manual. This place will get you sorted sooner rather than later.

Cheers guys, will give it all ago.

steady the camera in preference to chasing high iso's

start your career on a new camera in daylight where you arent so constrained by low light and difficult areas for the auto focus to work on

cheers
