Hello :). I'm currently looking for my first slr, and have been lookin for a used one with a 300 quid budget. I've been offered this

Canon 40D with charger
Canon 18-55 Kit lens
Sigma 28-200 Lens
Velbon Tripod
Canon bag

For 310

I'd this a good deal? And will it be good for my first foray into the slr world?

Ffordes have a 40D for £369 so your price looks good.

The lenses are rather ho-hum and I've no idea how good the tripod and bag are but on price alone it looks good to me. I think I'd sell the lenses and put whatever money they bring in towards something else.
 
That lot is worth £310 of anyone's money! :cool:
40D body only sells for between £275 and £320 depending on condition and shutter count, 18-55 non IS sells for around £25-30, Sigma 28-200 maybe £35-40, tripod and bag at least a fiver each even if they're the cheapest of the cheap.
As Alan said, buy it then sell those lenses and put the money towards something a little better.
The 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS combo is a great way to get started and you can pick up the pair for around £160 used or £210 new. :thumbs:

40D is a great body by the way, I love mine!

The 40D is a belter of a body and this seems a good price for everything, obviously depending on condition.
 
Ask the seller for the shutter count, they're rated for 100000 clicks but realistically you should be looking at less than 15000 for that sort of money.
If the seller doesn't know how to check, point him/her towards EOSinfo and ask for a screenshot of the result. :thumbs:

Yes 9k is low use for this body.

IS = Image Stabilisation. With Canon the IS is in the lenses, so if you are looking to buy a lens, sometimes there are 2 options of the lens available, one with & one without IS

IS on the 18-55 and 55-250 lenses means they are Image Stabilized which makes them a lot easier to use than lenses without it. You can normallytake the same shot at a slower shutter speed for more creative type shots with a stabilized lens as it cuts any hand shake and gives you a much better photo.
