is it common to now have 5 couple wanting me to cover weddings??? Obviously im grateful and will en devour to do my best :) Now trying to sort out all the insurance as these will be paid jobs.

So in my photographic life, Im currently riding high :D:D:D:D

Thanks Tom, tis a wonderful feeling :) :D :) :D :) :D

Good on yer. You have admitted the pictures arn't perfect, BUT and to me its the really BIG BUT, the couple love the photos so who cares what others think.

The fact that you now have other work proves one thing, you are able to deliver what these people want at a price there are prepared to pay, end of story!

Nice one Dave, well done mate

Thank you Keith

I knew that my first ever time would be littered with errors and problems, these I can now work forward on and correct in the future. And as you say, they could be photographically wrong, but if the end user like them, thats all that matters!

Many thanks for your comments

Dave,

Congrats, hopefully someday I will have the big brass ones to tackle a wedding. Just wondering are you supplying just the PP DVD of pictures or prints or an actual album. What sort of price are you charging for just starting out? Hope I am not being rude, just curious.

Ian,
I have supplied a DVD with the PP'd images, about 150 in total. Also have done smaller version so they can upload to facebook etc etc

The first paid one that has generated from this is in August. I have again said I will provide the images on disc like above so they can print and album what they want. I have charged £300 for this, and the couple are happy with this. They know I have only done one wedding in the past, so they are fully aware of my (lack of) experience.

And in regards to getting big brass ones - just do it! I got lucky and it was close friends of mine getting married so they knew me and my capabilities well. You can plan loads for a wedding, but you will still learn MASSIVE amounts just by doing it! Go for it!

Cheers Dave,

I have only even togged at a wedding for friends to take candids while the pro done the "real" work. I just dont know how comfortable I would be in getting people in the poses etc, but would love to give it a go convincing my fiancie to model more for me so I can get a better idea of lighing and stuff.

Good on you thou, very reasonable price for the number of photos you provided. Getting married in June next year, photographer costing us £1300 :gag: :help:. But figure its worth it.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I think the price is reasonable but fair. My inexperience means I cannot charge full wack, so anyone on a tight budget can still get some photos, just not as good as a established creative photographer. Obviously the more I do and the better I get, the price will rise as well.

I will reinforce my main point, DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!! :)

Dave,

I think you should stick at providing the shots on DVDs even as your prices rise. I think many couples will like the fact that they know exactly what the wedding photos will cost. You could also offer prints to relatives at normal prices and let the B & G sell them on "commission" that way they can reduce the cost of the wedding photos........

Liking your thought there  obviously this is not the normal way of doing weddings, the mark-up on albums is what generates the profit. But yes, as I improve the price rises and if I keep the package uber simple, I think it will appeal to a lot of couples.

obviously this is not the normal way of doing weddings

Exactly the point! many couples are happy to cut costs by ordering their own prints and album, its a differentiator. I think many pros are out of date and offer the service they want to do rather than what many of today's couples actually want.....

Now trying to sort out all the insurance as these will be paid jobs.

Can I ask what kind of insurance you are looking at getting and have you found anywhere yet?

The reason I ask is that I have had two couple approach me to shoot their weddings next year. They know my experience, I have given them a price/package which they seem to be happy with so am meeting them for a chat and to scope out their venues soon.

I'm pretty much at the same stage as you having shot a couple of weddings for friends as a favour these would be my first proper paid jobs and so I want to make sure I have any insurance in place that I need just in case.
