Yes
Here's 3 pics of Danny Jones from McFly (very cool band that you should listen to... if you're a teenybopper like myself) I took at the concert a few weeks ago... (i've only converted about 5 of the RAWS so far... I took too many... now it's intimidating lol)

Anyways, I'm not sure how to make them look decent.

The backgrounds are quite distracting, so I kinda want to just have the focus on Danny.
I do like the light colours though...

So if anyone has any tips, or want's to see what they've came up with I've left the full size unedited (apart from raw conversion) here.
Then maybe you could briefly descibe what you did..?
I dunno. But any help is appreciated.

Oh and i use Photoshop 7 btw.

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

The pics look pretty good to me. They are a crap band imo th0. At least you didn't post a pic of the really ugly one with the big chin.;)

i want to take shots at gigs, but im usually to smashed and broking out uncontrollably that id never dare take my camera with me.

went to see millencolin the other week at the wedgewood rooms Portsmouth, was a great gig, but not a very camera happy environment

You just need a beer proof 1D :p

The photos don't look too bad :)

Pics are fine, but poor you having to watch Mcfly.
Get yourself along to therapy, it might help the nightmares.

this was just a quick black a white conversion in lightroom with a preset i found somewhere and a couple of tweaks all of 30seconds worth

yayy, someone else who shares my dislike for them!
they just annoy me so much!
i'd like to swear lots and give more insults to the band, but i'll shush!!

okay, rant over!

i like the shots lots though!

I think the pics are pretty good the way they are, a wee tweak in Lightroom like the one Craig did is all they need. Just one question though.....

Who are these McFly chappies? Some sort of modern beat combo, I assume

I like them as they are Tinyspark are but mr stebbings versions really do look great especially no3..wonder if they will be around in the year 3000..was that mcfly..my girls love them second only to the jonas bros.

Thanks :)
I should really do more PP work on my band stuff! Haha!

Hey, how can you not like Mcfly??! You clearly have not been to any of their concerts... Everyone assumes they're just cheese on a stick, but only the few songs they release (they sell!) but their albums are always really really good!

On to the pics though...

Thanks for your edits guys!
I never thought of converting them into B&W, but it looks pretty good!
MJ Stebbings- you're versions look so good! thanks lots for your advice!
Think i'll have a go at that now actually...

Dan82- i love it! how did you put those hands in? where'd you even find them? so cool!

PS- Paulc- i love the jo bros too! aha!

I nicked it from a tutorial i had done some while ago, it was about using apply image in PS to do just what i did. Was a bit mish mashed as it hasnt blended perfectly. :(
The hands where cut from there background via colour range and blended in using layermasks and blend modes.

I have questions - how did you get into the gig with a camera that shoots raw?
What F setting did you use? If you used a wide appaerture you should have been able to blur the background more and not end up with the distractions.

And for those who knock the band. I am a musician and I like to think I have some credibility. I also took the P out of McFly but having been dragged to a show I have mroe respect. They write good pop tunes and they can play their instruments better than a lot of so called pro bands. The deliver a quality product to a market that gratefully receives it. I only wish I was as successful as a photographer.

Personally, I'd go for a tighter crop on each of these. The sense of atmosphere is nice, but there's too much in the background to distract away from the artist. You only need a little bit to show it's a stage photo rather than a studio shot.

That said, the crop on the 2nd is excellent. I'd desaturate the reds just a tiny bit.

On the third to remove the arm you should use the patch tool:

I photographed this show a few weeks ago, the lighting was a treat! Really bright and nice white light on the front and a nice colour on the back most of the time.

Really? Cool! Can i see some of your pics? Get any cute Dougue ones? hehe
Are you the official photographer i saw there, with the big (white..?) lens??

Thanks for the tip Blapto!

AndyB- I'm glad you have some respect for them, and really people should go to their gigs and see what i mean!
I had to sneak the camera in under my top lol.
I try using a wide aperture for loads of shots but then the focus on the artist was lost, so I used higher ones... But still not right! that's my inexperiece for ya lol.
But for these i used F/4.

Also, what metering mode should i use in this situation?

Okay... ^^^^ they are awesome! so clear and great captures at the right moments!!
I especially love that 4th one (Danny)!! And the 2nd of Doug too...
So, were you allowed in the photographer's pit but weren't actually the official tog, how do you get to do that?
I'm going to see Chris Brown in the odyssey in January and the Pussycat Dolls & Lady Gaga in the King's Hall in Feb.. hopefully i can get my camera in to those events.. A bit of practice you know! Are you gonna be at any of those venues?

Just realised your from NI as well, hey!

Yeah, you'll only be allowed to shoot the first three songs though then you're escorted from the building. For this show, we only got to shoot songs 2 and 3. To get into the pit, you'll need to work for a publication and be approved by the bands management. Im going to be at both of those shows, i shoot most shows in Belfast and ocasionally venture elsewhere. I wouldnt recomend bringing a slr to the Odyssey, Kings Hall should be fine though.
