My girlfriend wants a pretty looking camera!

I have been requested to purchase a camera for my girlfriends birthday (which is fast approaching).

The only spec that she has given me is - "It needs to be pretty and preferably pink, purple or white"!

The rest of the spec I consider to be important to her would be compact, durable, simple to use and decent quality shots.

I have a budget of up to £150.

I have not looked into cameras for around 3 years and things seem to have moved on a little! Could you please point me in the direction of a few that you regard as a good camera that matches my specification?

Tell her that cameras are used to take nice looking photos, not to look nice.

At £150, the differences between your choices will be negligible. I think Sony usually do a variety of colours on their compacts.
 
Pentax NB1000... the (in)famous "lego" camera.... so she can always redesign it if the pictures aren't pleasing...

I have no idea if you can even buy one of these in the UK or how much they cost...but it ticks all the other boxes!

I can't get onto the Currys/PCWorld site at the moment, I think they were doing metallic pink Canon Ixus 130's for £130 which may be worth a look. They're pink, small, metal body and image quality is pretty good.

No seriously, what about the Canon Ixus 115 HS? (£139 in pink)

I've no idea really about current P&S cameras but my previous Canons have been great.

Thanks for the help (most of it genuine!! ;) )

It looks like i have narrowed my search to the Canon Ixus 130 and the Canon Ixus 115 HS

Can anyone steer me towards one rather than the other?

The 115 HS seems to get better reviews...
 
Personally, i really like the I-10... dont think retro would really be her thing though :(
 
You're not going to get anything stunning for £150, but you should be able to get a decent P & S. The Canon Ixus range have always been good for the money.

I don't see anything wrong with wanting a pretty camera at all. People buy things for all sorts of reasons, and sometimes we agree with them, sometimes not. It's her camera. Why don't you take her to a shop and let her choose for herself?
 
Samsung PL150 - has dual screen. I know girls like to pose in front of cameras, she would see straight away how she looks in shoot :)
