My good lens and dust

Hiya,

My favoured 105mm macro has dust inside the lens. sigh

typically happens when on holidays so I guess its photoshopping time ;)

Can you guys/gals recommend a good place to get it cleaned/fixed and aprox time/cost?
Assuming some of you have cleaned lenses by pros?

Are you sure it's in the lens? If there's spots on your pictures, then I would think it's more likely to be sensor dust.

If you can see dust in the lens, it's unlikely it will show on your pics.

Do you have a sample pic? And any pics of the dust in the lens (if that's where you can see it?)

I am guessing that it is visible on shots taken in bright light with a small aperture, in which case I would say the dust is on the sensor.
 
Ditto to the above. Visible specs on your images = sensor dust. A little dust inside the lens may just conceivably rob a little contrast or cause extra flare, but it won't cause visible blobs.

Took the lens off, changed to manual, opened up (f2.8) looked through. there are marks/dust inside. :/

Not the sensor (that was my first thought) unfortunately.

Some pics taken have a small sharp mark (photoshop/gimp will deal with this) but at a longer range it blurs out. Some portrait type shots have a blur on the forehead... Which paniced the model briefly :)
 
Any dust inside the lens is invisible. It will not show up in photos.

If you have marks on your images, then it is sensor dust. Sensor dust is only visible at high f/numbers. Shoot a plain surface at f/16-ish to see what you've got. Change lenses and do the same, and the sensor dust marks will be in identical places.

In terms of image quality, you need a huge amount of dust for it to make any difference, and then it will show itself as flare if you shoot into bright light.
