Hi,

I've considered getting a FF body (probably going to wait now as I don;t have the cash), however I've seen mentioned a couple of times - designed for FF

So with the sigma aside all my other lenses are EF or EF types, so does that mean they would actually work better (crisper focus, IQ etc) on a FF body?

Oh er.... I might be wrong but...

The APS-C cameras have higher density chips so I suppose they're a bigger test for any lens in the centre of the image but a full frame chip will show any nasties towards the edge of the frame and beyond what APS-C would show so FF may be more forgiving in the centre but much more exacting towards the edges.

You mean you have EF and EFS lenses?

EF lenses will work on any current Canon, EFS lenses only work on crop sensor bodies.

There's actually no such thing as a lens "designed for FF", as such, but there are lenses designed for crop (EFS) as they only work on crop.

So on an FF or 1.3 crop you can only use EF lenses. It's nothing to do with quality, merely the design of the rear mount as EFS lenses protrude further into the body.

In fact some lesser EF lenses can look worse on a full frame body as they'll show up any corner softness which is naturally cropped out on a crop body.

Thank you, thats good to know, having seen all the designed for speak I started wondering if my choice of body was somehow hampering the lens.
