I bought my 70-200 mk2 from panamoz last week and just out of curiousity I went to have a look at the date code on it, now normally it is stamped on the camera end of the lens but it is nowhere to be seen, any other gueses where it might be, I have searched the whole lens.

Mine doesn't have a code, its part of the new longer serial number i've been told.

Also read somewhere that the date code stopped after Z (2011)
 
Yes, some of the new lenses don't have a serial number on as previous, Canon have amended it for some reason...
 
It looks like they have re-introduced the date code system according to here http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/Canon-Lens-Aging.aspx I know some of the 70-200 MkII's were produced without a date code in 2011-2012, but I think they have started putting them back on again. I can't find any date code on mine and my serial number is just numbers and no letters and it was bought around june this year.
 
That page doesn't say that it's been re-introduced and ever since I got my 24-70 last year it's had years up to 2015.
