Just wanted to share my experience with my new purchase.

I was attracted to it because of the IQ, 720/100fps, RAW image capture and wide aperture and I am not disappointed with my purchase at all!

It is a superb little camera and for those that have researched the camera, don't let the smaller sensor put you off - it excels my X10 in IQ at ISO's 100-800. It has plenty of manual controls and the lens controls are a real nice touch. AF speed is pretty quick and if you are thinking about a premium compact - be sure to read some reviews of this little gem :)

Pros:

  • F1.4-2.3
  • Sharp lens (sharpest from f2.5 - 4.5)
  • Great battery life
  • Excellent IQ and detail preservation from ISO80-800
  • Hot shoe
  • Creative images
  • Fantastic video quality and frame rates
  • Built in ND filter
  • Good amount of controls
  • Aperture ring on lens
  • Manual video controls
  • +/- 3 stop EV bracketing

Cons:
  • Flimsy battery door
  • It has a timelapse interval timer but minimum is 1m apart
  • Sensor not as large as competitors
  • Zoom is a bit slow
  • Aperture ring can be easy to change by mistake

Interesting, I didn't even know this camera existed... can i ask how much you paid for it though? The pricing seems really quite steep at the moment.

Especially as I have sold my X10 (on TP) and can't decide what to get next but as posted on the X10 thread am seriously looking at the LX7, and from DigitalRev. But I am such a ditherer :thinking:

What other options did you consider? Did you consider the Canon s110 as well? It sells for the same price on Panamoz.

I'm looking for a truly pocketable camera (I currently have the X100 but its still too big to carry around with me on a daily basis).

Why would I consider the s110 - it has a slow lens and doesn't shoot anywhere near the frame rate I wanted for video.

There are no other options / competitors for what I wanted, the LX7 ticks every box I needed to be ticked and more.

Because of my body being crocked I just want a quality compact to carry on me most times, I am out of the house, 'in case' in case something crops up of which I wish to record that memory.

My wife has a Panasonic TZ30 and likes it but I want something better - the IQ and low light capability as good as the X10 but easier for my hands and arms to use. But with a £300 absolute maximum budget.

Why don't you start an Panasonic LX thread in the same way Duncan has with the Fuji X10. ;)
 
i love panasonic and my LX5 is so good its all i take on holliday.

is the LX7 a lot better worth me buying?
 
I bought an LX5 and I was disappointed that the image quality couldn't match my previous LX2. Once bitten... I doubt I'll buy another LXx.

I bought the x10 over the lx 5 for the same reasons and the lx7 over the x10 :)

...you've seen my examples, it is a great image producing camera :)

Detail retention is there however;

Final image depends on your PP skills imo, its there to use, weather you can make it look nice is down to you but noisewise: I could make a 1600 shot look like a 200 shot if I wanted to...

Great to see a review of the LX7. I am mainly into DSLR video shooting but am after a point and shoot camera to take on city breaks as don't want to be lugging all my lenses.

I don't mind taking a 50mm and a 5DMK2 body but am after a point and shoot to take care of the times I don't have the DSLR with me.

I have narrowed it down to the Fuji XF1 (£370) and the Lumix LX7 (£388) or maybe the Sony RX100 (£430). I am after something small to walk around whilst taking shots of landmarks, in-door dimly lit places or having a meal at a restaurant.

The colours on the Fuji seem more punchier? How you finding the LX7 colours?

I'm very happy with my purchase...I don't think it can be beaten on what it offers at the moment...

I have heard a lot of rx100 owners that are a bit dissapointed.

Colours are vibrant and contrasty but then again I shoot raw so they are whatever I make them :)

You can customize everything to how you like it thought.
 
Having looked at RX100 I wasn't that impressed either. I briefly played with the LX7 in John Lewis but only paid attention to it since I saw you post "it excels my X10 in IQ at ISO's 100-800"

I was all set to purchase the XF1 which is smaller than the X10 and F1.8 and a tad wider at 25mm....Decisions!!!!

I needed one by the weekend so was looking to grab at airport or order from Dig Rev as seems way cheaper than UK online places.
 
Phil, did you ever get round to starting that LX-7 thread?

I almost got one of these today, only when i saw my bank balance did I stop :)

Funnily enough there really aren't that many shots out there on this one and I don;t know why, it seems to tick so many boxes

Excellent, I'm hoping to get it around payday (24th) so that will give me loads of drooling time
 
I too have an LX7 and it is a brilliant little camera.

I have started a Flickr group just for this camera here

I had an lx3, nice camera it was but the video was pants. I'm sure they've improved it a lot since then video wise.

I have an LX5 and really like it
very handy little camera and I think it produces great images unless you start pixel peeping.
 
Pretty good - in some ways its more complex than the SLR, or rather with less buttons things are hidden away - I'm actually in danger of reading the manual!!
