I've never ever been happy with a pocket camera but as a lover of the concept I keep looking and last week a client rolled up wanting to learn how to get the best out of his new purchase and LX-5 from the Far East.

I grabbed one of the first LX-3s a couple of years ago and returned it within a week for one reason only, I couldn't hack the fiddly controls on the back especially the horrid little joystick thingy.

Fortunately this has been adressed and the back plate now has a miniature 4-way controller, Canon style with the usual pressable Panasonic thumb wheel.
I think IQ and Pixels remain the same but the optical zoom has been increased from 24-60mm to 24-90mm which makes a heck of a difference. The autofocus seems faster and wow I love it!!

I look forward to taking it out and about on the weekend and will post some snaps if no one beats me to it.

Only negative I've spotted so far, and it's minor, is that the mode dial can get rotated during pocketing, should be stiffer like on GF-1.
