Hi Guys

For the last few months all I did to comment on photographs was to every so often go through the "unanswered posts" section.

But having looked at the photo sharing section I can see that some members are working dam hard giving critique and some of the other comments are pretty spares with information. I reckon the only about 20-30% of us are regularly proving feed back for other users?

So I am promising to give 2-3 hours a week commenting on photographs! Things are I find it’s very hard commenting on photos properly and it probably takes me 5-10 minutes for each thread.

So who else who doesn’t normally comment on photographs going to reply to this thread saying they are going to give more time to commenting on the photographs posted here? :D

Cheers

Stuart

I will accept your challenge!

I was comparing a photo I took with a pro zoo tog's similar shot the other day and if I'm honest mine is a lot better, so armed with this new found confidence that I kindof know what I'm talking about I'll start offering some crit.

there is a Critique filter as well as a sharing filter for photos, with a discussion filter now too, this should allow you to pick what you want to comment on more easily

Oh my god, I have only now just spotted that "new posts" menu... dear god, 15 years in IT and I am already turning into a "user" :D

the Critique tab is not being used that much.

I used to think that any photo posted here (other than the for fun section) was here to be Critiqued (is that a word? :D)

Are we suposed to only Critique the threads with the Critique tab? If so what are we suposed to do with the rest of the threads? :D

Cheers Stuart

That's a great idea Stuart. We should all be giving and receving crit. I find even one comment on how a pic can be improved is better that lots if "nic pic" comments. Even though I think of myself as a newby I generally try to say what I like and what could be improved

I would like to comment more on some of the posts, but as a bit of a newbie I would probably offend the OP. After all what does a newbie know.

On another note, it seems most of the post lack information about the shot. Would it not be easier if a couple of details were included, ie: lens type, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, just so that people looking would be aware of the shooting conditions.

My reading of it, was general comments on those posts which are not marked with Critique.

For those marked with Critique, they are obviously asking for more in-depth responses as they believe they have done as much /as they know how to/, to the image as it is, and it is what they consider the finished article.
So rip it to shreds :D (in a nice way) [ posts with only "Nice Shot" not wanted here ]

My resolution should be to get out and photograph more, so that I can put more photos up for Critique.
I will definitely spend more time commenting on shots as well though.

Edit: Thinking about it. My statistics say I post on average 2 per day. Maybe I should force myself to crit at least once per day.

THe best way to think of it is like watching a film. We will all come away thinking it was a good or bad film even though most of us would be hopless at producing a film. Skill the the camera and having an eye for a photograph are to independant things.

I'm always scared I upset the OP but I keep looking at the "my TP" > "User CP" tab so that any thread I have commented on need futher coments I won't miss it.

Stuart

comment on all photos posted outside of fluffy kittens, but go indepth in Critique.
