Julie is not having much luck at the moment now the sound card is burning, (it absolutely stinks)

where can I get a PCI-e 1x card from?

Cheers peeps,

I'm going onto the laptop now in the other room until the smoke clears

looks like I also need a new Mobo, :(

I'm not buying Asus again

Thats the 12v lines by the look of it, not sure a sound card would burn that out. Unless the slots look damaged I would just clean up those connectors and try firing it up before spending any money.

If you have onboard video then remove any addin video card first.

Must admit I've never used Asus mainboards prefering Abit or Gigabyte.

it's the extra 4 pins for the PCI-e power that has melted, the machine still powers up ok, but it keeps turning itself off after a few minutes, thats when the burning smell starts,

I don't have onboard graphics, I have 2x ATI 4890 in crossfire configuration.

I'm pretty sure the sound card did this, because it was acting up a few days ago, in which I pulled it out (with the machine off) and cleaned the contacts, then it seemed fine.

had to rig up Lauren in place of Julie, for editing photos :)
