Hi all,

I set up a website last month for my photography. I didn't want it to be too flashy, really just wanted something to firstly show my work, but to also help me to understand web-design (I made the website myself).

Please feel free to comment, critique, make suggestions etc.

It's definitely a work in progress so I do hope to make improvements as I go along.

Website: http://www.stephenwalford.co.uk

Many thanks,
Steve

Looks good, a easy to use site. The only thing I'm not sure of is the white writing 'Specialising in travel & landscape photography' doesn't stand out enough for me.

Thanks for looking! It's definitely good to get other peoples comments.

I agree the text is small, and thats something a colleague mentioned earlier today. I am definitely going to work on the header - will make the text bigger.

Do you think the site opening on a flash player of photos works? I'm not 100% sure still.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the animation on the buttons, I found it a bit distracting, animation is best used to attract attention to something important rather than distract the browser from what they are doing.

I like the top banner, and how it works with the background to the site, but it may be a little tall, there is a fair amount of blank space there, which is pushing your images down, so I need to scroll down to see them (1440x900px screen).

Overall though it is a very good first attempt at a website.

Looks like a website from RapidWeaver?

Potentially it can be good, keep it up to date and you have a good one.

Thanks for looking. Interesting comments, will definitely take them into consideration. The only issue is the website is made with RapidWeaver, and the template I have used doesn't allow much flexibility with the banner size etc. It is definitely somehting to consider for the future though, and if I were to get a new template.

Yes, it was made with RapidWeaver, and hosted on my MobileMe. As I had no previous web-design experience, it was between RW and iWeb - I didn't like the feel of iWeb so RW it was. And it is so simple to link to a personal domain and MobileMe.

I have been trying to change the banner size, but it is not possible with the template I use unfortunately.

What do you all think about the websites home page, with the flash player?

Do you think it would work better opening to something simpler, and then have separate pages for the two galleries?
