After years of trying, my wife as talked me into going to watch her at Crufts, specially now that I have taken photography up as a hobby, but I have heard that its a very difficult place to get good results, due to mixed types of lighting, as anyone done Crufts without a flash, as the people I have asked, most have different ideas on settings to get good results, the correct white balance I believe is difficult due to mixed lighting, plus some natural light from windows near the roof. any help appreciated

What area will you be shooting?
I was in the public area for agility and HTM last year in the big ring, the big issue I had was with a plank of a security guard who disliked the camera............anyway...

The problems I had was firstly it was a green carpet, but then getting the shutter speed high enough, as they are both fast sports. I was at about 1/500 f2.8 and ISO1600, and also composition is very limited.

But I was pleased with the outcome.

See for here - obviously you can check my settings too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davesid/sets/72157623297395670

If your in the show rings then I guess your going to have the same issues, but at least you can keep the shutter speed slower..:)
