Narrowed it down to 7d (15,000 shots £380) 50d £200 (25,000 shots or 1ds mk2 £370 ( 138,000)

Right folks,

I have a budget of around £1100 now and was thinking of one of these bodies earlier along with maybe a 5d mk2. I have since decided that the 5d mk2 will eat up too much of my budget as i wanted a quality zoom with f2.8 capabilities and that left me with the crop 17-55 and the older 24-70L. With these lenses in mind i realised i cannot afford the 5dmk2 so i've got three viable options. Which would you choose?

I thought if i bought the 7d (in very good nick with 15,000 shots) and the 17-55 that would take up roughly £380 + £400 = £780 and leave me maybe even enough for the lencarta smartflash 2 kit or at least a quality speedlight and plenty left for cards, bag etc and maybe a prime.

The 1ds mk2 has many noticeable marks on it and has a shutter count of 138,000 and that paried with the 24-70L will leave me only around £100 pounds or so for accessories and i'll need to make do without a speedlight.

The third choice is the 50d in very good nick with 25,000 shots which again i could pair with the 17-55 and be left with enough for the smartflash kit and a speedlight or prime.

Do you think a 7d is worth the extra £180 compared to the 50d or should i get the 50d and put the rest toward lighting and accessories?

Will either of these cropped combo's give results comparable to the 1ds mk2 or is that much better?
 
Honestly the 7D and 50D are quite capable but the 1DS2 is going to be much better.

£100 for accessories is doable depending on what you need and already have. You could look at Yongnuo flashguns, they're cheap but get favourable reviews. Cards can be quite cheap, especially SD.

I wasn't sure there would be much difference. Back to the head scratching then ha ha. I migh be able to manage the 1ds mk2 by opting for a couple of primes rather than the 24-70L. Decisions decisions.

I'd not really considered these. I can get a mint 5dmk1 for under £300. Would these have an advantage in image v the crop sensor 7d or 50d? I was thinking as it was a fair age maybe not but i've no experience with full frame.

The 5D still produces beautiful images, Id go for that with a 24-105 F4 and a 85mm 1.8 USM before I went for any of the others. Should run you £850 tops for this setup.
 
Just noticed no auto ISO on the 5d mk1. That could be a big problem for me as outside etc i'd be relying on my own know how or taking time with a meter (additional cost) to expose correctly. I've always used auto iso except in a studio so that might be a non starter for me.
 
So you would need to learn how to use a camera correctly, I see that as a good thing.

I highly recommend you actually hold a 1DS2 before buying, its very large and heavy. IQ between the 5D and 1dsmk2 is marginal, the 5d is smaller, much lighter, better screen, better controls (no weird combo button thing to change settings).

I owned a 5D, bought a 1dsmk2, the 1dsmk2 got sold almost immediately and I kept the 5D. Thats my experience, others are different.

I think that would be a good thing too BUT i also think if i started off struggling to get used to this body and didn't enjoy it i would re-list it asap, probably way too soon but i know i would. I just think that maybe i'd be biting off more than i can chew. I have got to use this for the next two years for my college course and the thought of taking on unnecessary difficulty does not sit well with me. I'll have enough on my plate without adding to it.

I've seen myself at times with my previous 50d on manual messing about and being challenged in certain situations regarding exposure, then i'd whack it into P or T mode and it would nail the exposure then when i checked what settings the camera selected i'd realise what i'd be doing wrong. I'm not sure i'd have the time in these situations to try and figure this out for myself.
 
Decided on the 50d as the extra £200 that the 7d would cost will buy me a nice prime or speedlight. Cheers guys.
 
don't get a 5d or a 1ds2, the screen is too low quality and you won't know whether you got a good picture until back home on the computer

get a more modern camera with a nice screen to review images on- particularly if you're a beginner
