It's definitely a mirrorless that I'm going for.... Can't see me lugging around a dslr.

But, the choices are mind boggling.

Which one to go for. Our local camera shop only had a xt10 or a58 to play with so that didn't really help.

I'll be shooting mainly Street, portraits and live bands.

What to go for? Xpro1? Xt10? Xt1? A7? A77? 4/3rds?

Plus,.... Which lenses?

Well, I like my Panosonic GX7 and I think there is now an 8. i have a 20mm, short zoom and 100-300 - would like to fill that gap but the 2.8 is very pricey and it is not my main system so can't justify the expense. It also depends what you want to shoot. Check out some FlickR groups and some of the thread on here to see what is being posted and then find somewhere to get hands on. I hear good stuff about Fuji too.. As you say, a lot of choice. Good luck.

If you're doing concert photography, the A7s should be high on your list. If not that one, then the A7II is also pretty fantastic.
 
Just been through all this myself, started FF but canned that too heavy and too much weight in the lens and cost too...

Narrowed it down the
Fuji Xt1
Olympus EM1
Olympus Em5II

I eventually ordered the Em5 II from Panamoz Monday evening, it came Yesterday not bad 3 days from China, full 3 year warranty and I also got the 12-40 pro lens in the pack for 1089.00 UK.

Fuji get good reviews but I knew what Lens I wanted for the Oly so it was the right choice, I now have the 75-300 the 60mm macro and the 14-42 pancake.
Quality of the photos and colours surpass my Fz1000. Lots of nice touches on it 5axis stabilisation is very good and movies are very smooth...

Good luck with your choice but check out Panamoz gets my vote...

Lens wise the 12-40 pro and the pancake are good choices the pro is kinda all you'll need really unless you really wanna zoom the get the 75 300.....600mm FF equiv. pancake is compact and what I use when I'm out on the MTB easy to go in my pocket then..

A77 is a DSLR :p One of the A7's will give you the best all round IQ and best subject isolation (for a given aperture), m4/3 will be the smallest system but more difficult to get subject isolation (far from impossible with the right lens) and the X-T1 is somewhere in between.

TBH if I was going for the best all rounder in the mirrorless category I'd be going for the Sony a6000 (even though I have the Olly EM5-II). APS sensor and one of the best (if not the best) autofocus in mirrorless.

Thanks mate. Been looking at the a6000. Will need to find a camera shop with one to have a play.
 
Kinda depends. I fluctuate. Went from Panasonic m4/3 to Canon 5D MkII. Which made a pretty heavy kit with the zooms. But I took it to Rome and Venice with just a 50 1.4 and it wasn't inconvenient at all. The discipline of having only one lens with me was quite challenging but mostly I found I could zoom with my feet. Then I fell in love with the Panasonic GX7 with 20 1.7 and the 100-300. But after a little while I started to find all the little buttons on the GX7 quite fiddly. And I was going to California for my honeymoon so I invested in a Nikon D7100 which was really nice and made quite a lightweight (sort of) kit with the 16-85 and the 55-300. Of course now I've got a D800... and its a bit heavy...

Really need to spend more time taking pics than obsessing over gear.
 
ive got a omd-em10 and a nikon d7200 the em10 is used way more at the moment lovely image quality and very easy to carry.

I had the EM10 and used it more than my crop DSLR but since buying the D750 I rarely use the Olly except for hols (I've since swapped the EM10 for the EM5-II) as I find the D750 better for my needs in terms of AF, and I particularly like the way the D750 renders with certain lenses. But the IQ of the Olly always surprises me. OK, lens for lens it's not as good as the D750 but it's pretty close.

the fact the oly is close to a full frame dslr is pretty amazing really, speaks volumes on what a good job they did. the 7200 is defiantly better iq wise than the oly but its all about the camera you have with you, while dslr have better af for most of my shots i just dont need that.
 
How about something like the canon m? DSLR quality but in a mirrorless size body. Also the original version is now very cheap

You used to be able to get them from argos for £200 new with the kit lens.
Looks like they don't sell them anymore following then releasing their new catalogue.

Can still probably pick them up second hand cheap. I paid £120 for mine for example
 
I'm off to leicester tomorrow...hopefully there are some camera shops there so i can have a play!?
 
Had a play in John Lewis. I'm gonna go for the a6000, easier to hold than the fujis and I loved the lightening fast af.
