Alright guys, im looking at getting a ND filter for when I do my car rig shots. But i dont have a clue which one to get. Ive been looking at Hoya ND8 but dont know if thats any good.

As said they will be mainly for Car rig shots but will also use them for some scenery shots.

Im primarily looking at one for my Wide angle which has 77mm filters.

I would guess for rig shots it would be one of the few occasions that a screw in circular type filter would be advantageous as a square type filter would cause more wind resistance possibly causing a little bit of vibration/shake especially as a higher speed shot, that said if you progress and start looking at graduated filters then square is really the only option as screw in grads are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot :lol:
 
Nobody can give you the answer to this question, other than 'it depends'.

What shutter speed to your want? What is the ambient light exposure? How many stops difference is there between the two shutter speeds? That's the ND filter you need.

BTW, ND8 is three stops darker, not eight. Eg, ND 2, 4, 8, 16 etc is 1, 2, 3, and 4 stops and so on. Sometimes also expressed as optical density 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 etc.
 
Thanks for explainging, im looking just to go around 4/5 stops darker id of though with what im shooting as I already use a CPL so that on top should be perfect in the day.

Also lookig at the thread c22w1 recommended and the one on there they are using looks perfect for me to try and everyone is giving it good reviews
