ND filter choices - Help me choose!

So I have decided to invest in a half decent set of filters.

I'm 99% sure I'm going for Hitech as a nice compromise between cost and quality.

Now I will be using the filters with my Canon 15-85mm.

In terms of what I want out of the filters, they will be used for -

Water blur (probably get a 10 stopper for this)
Create interesting skies

What specific filters would you recommend would get the most use based on how I want to use them?
 
I can recommend the hi-tech from experience, however if you plan on using them a lot then I would bite the bullet and invest in Lee (as many others will tell you I am sure!)

IMHO there is no comparison, especially on their big stopper. I had the hitech 10 stop and had no end if issues with light leak and colour cast... switched to the Lee and its the best thing I ever did!
 
Thanks, still think Hitech is best suited for me, I'm sure Lee will be better but they aren't cheap and based on how often ill be using the filters I don't think they're suited for me.

From my research I think I'll be fine with the 85mm kit of a crop sensor, can someone confirm?
 
Buy the 100's. They will last far longer than your camera, if you ever upgrade to full frame, they will be useless. The cost difference is negligable.
 
Not when you then have to buy another set in a years time because the ones you have dont fit your new camera. A 100mm set will stay with you for life.. An 85mm wont, and you will never sell them on for as much as you could a 100mm set.

At the end of the day its your money though.
 
it's about the lens more than the camera I think
I have some cheapo 50 quid ones and they were okay for my purposes.
however, whilst they were fine on the 17-50 tamron, the 17-55 canon is to broad (girth!!!)
now I have a 18-135 walkabout I can use them again

so you have a 7D, but what lens?? or lenses?
