ND Filter

Planning on buying a nd filter and was wondering if any nd filter would do or if it mattered. I noticed some nd kits on amazon and wasn't to sure on the price... I also noticed a number, I'm assuming that that dictates the tone of the filter in which case what would be a good all around tint?

First question.. Do you know what and ND filter does?
Second question, do you want a ND standard or hard or soft grad?

ND filters arent usually colour toned, unless you are buying specialised ones. The should be either gray all over, or in the case of grads, grey at the top and clear at the bottom.
The number represents the amount of light the the dark part blocks.

A 0.3 for example is alos known as an ND 2. However this blocks 1 stop of light.
An 0.6, also known as an ND4, blocks 2 stops of light.
A 0.9 AKA ND8, blocks 3 stops of light.

As for which you need. Its impossible to say as it depends on the light levels you are shooting in

I'm still new to filters so I'm not too familial with filters as of now I have a uv filter for both my lens and a polarizer to tone down glares and highlights
