Hi all i am looking for a decent ND filter kit for 72. 77 and possibly 82mm lenses i own.

I have heard about the LEE filter systems that seem to be similar to a cokin system and was wondering if i should invest in one of these instead of buying an individual ND filter for different lens threads?

i am looking for 2-4 and possibly an 8 stopper ND filter.

My budget is around 250.

I have a Cokin system but it's hardly used these days. Anyway... the big plus points of these systems as I see them are that you can, if you have the correct adapters, mount them on any lens and slot in the various filters and slide them up and down etc to your hearts content. On the minus side they're more cumbersome. These days if I'm going to use a filter it'll probably just be an ND to enable me to shoot at wide apertures in good light and for this purpose I use a screw on the end of the lens type ND. These are obviously smaller than a Lee/Cokin filter and holder system.

If you want to use filters in any way in which a holder system gives you an advantage then a holder system is the way to go but if you just want a simple ND now and again maybe a screw on one will suit you better? You could even use a screw on one on lenses of different diameter if you buy one which fits your largest diameter lens and then just buy cheap step up rings for your smaller diameter lenses. That's how I do it.

Cokin v Lee. I don't think that anyone would argue that Lee filters aren't better than Cokin :D I just bought the much cheaper Cokin system because I knew I'd only use it occasionally. Some people report poor quality and colour shifts with Cokin filters but I've never encountered any serious issues.

It's not clear whether you mean ND Grads or straight ND filters, or both.

If ND Grads, you need a slot-in system. If it's straight NDs, particularly something like an 8-10 stopper, then screw-in is usually the best option (maybe with a stepping ring to fit different lenses). If you want to use both together, then it's slot-in.
 
Straight my filters ;) I just got a 4 and 10 stopper all in 82mm and then night step down adapters. Job done
