Yes
After receiving my 2 latest purchases from TP, a 430EX and 10-22mm I nearly have my perfect kit!

It now consists of:
Canon 40D
Canon 10-22mm USM
Sigma 17-70mm
Canon 70-300mm IS USM
Canon 430EX
Pentax 100mm manual
Cimko 28mm f/2.8 (use reversed for extreme macro with tubes)
Red Snapper tripod & ball head

plus 3 manual flashes (2 small for macro) and an aluminium macro flash rig I made a few days ago along with some other bits and pieces!

All I would like now is a 17-55mm IS USM to replace the Sigma and a 580EX for more power. I'm actually getting on with the Sigma much better now I have the 40D as it used to hunt a lot more (I feel) when I had my 400D, I guess the low light AF system must be better/more sensitive in camera?

Anyway I'm very happy now and pretty lucky too- so long as the gf doesn't find out I bought the 10-22

Now I just have to learn to use it all!!! As the weather is getting nice now I'm hoping to get out and about as much as possible with it, once I've cracked the exposure thing I'm just about there :)

Is there such a thing as a perfect kit?

When you get everything you thought you wanted isn't there something else that you must have :D

lucky you,

my dream kit consists of:

16-80mm f3.5-4.5
70-300mm SSM f4.5-5.6
sony 50mm f1.4
carl zeiss 85mm f1.4
sony 100mm f2.8 macro

and so far i have a 50mm f1.7 and a 55-200mm. although i am an unemployed 16 year old:D

Lol yes there is always something you want, though I'm not a pro, have no intention of going pro so the 40D is perfect for me, and I'm happy with having no white L lenses, I prefer not being too conspicuous at the track and less worry for me! The lenses are about as good as I can get for my needs without going L so I dont think I will be changing them soon :D

I'm just hoping I lose the upgrade bug and stay happy with my 17-70 as the last thing my bank balance needs is me spending too much on a 17-55 when I'm on a "I need that" day :lol:

Wait until you decide you must have 5d mk2 with 24-70L and 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II

And a 300 f/4 or f/2.8 because "the IQ isn't quite good enough at the long end", or "I need the extra stop or two over the 70-300"... :p

And the 16-35 because your now using a 5DII, and then a 35L and 135L for low light. Then a 600mm f/4 because you not happy with the 300 2.8+2x you bought ect ect

Add the Pentax Limiteds and a body and you'll be sorted

Wait until you pick up a 1 series :)

I blame you Dave actually for everything.

I was quite happy with my Nikon D200 until you came along.
Then you forced me use the 24-105 f4 L and 40D.
And then, to top it all, MADE me borrow the 1D MKII

:D:D:D

Congrats TC. Sounds like a nice setup you have.
(Stay away from them damn L's. They cause allot of trouble  )

Any luck with the flash situation yet?

You have your perfect kit?
Yeah right......Many a person have said those words and I am amongst them.
I started this DSLR lark in June 2008.
450D + kit lens, 40D, nifty fifty, Canon 17-85, Canon 55-250, Canon 10-22, Tamron 17-50VC F2.8 and a Tamron 17-270VC.
I thought after all of those I had got to my perfect kit.

The only item left on that lens that I have kept is the Canon 10-22.
I now have a 50D and a 24-105L IS F4 and tomorrow I am picking up a Canon 70-200L IS F4.
Steer well clear of TP meets because eventually someone will let you have a play with their L glass.
You will get home, review and process the test shots you took, your mouth will feel dry, you will start to shake and you will feel the 'lust'.
When the 'L lust' kicks in there is nothing you can do, it doesn't matter how much you say to yourself 'I am not spending that amount of money on lenses just for a hobby', and you will succumb sooner or later.
The touch, the feel of an L body will make you quiver and once again you be will reminded of the day you lost your virginty and how exciting it was.
Take a drive to North London, I dare you to come and try these lenses for yourself :D

Just look at Andy Fozzy, all those posts when he owned a 40D and he's not only suffering from 'L lust' his desire has gone ever further now he owns a 1D MKII :)

Ok ok so I like the look of the L lenses- but I'm not even going to try one!!! I think I'm going to spend the £800 on a pair of aluminium heads and a new cam for my 5l V8 yank motor for an extra hundred horsepower before I buy a 24-70, but yes- I know I'll want one when I get the chance to play!

But they are bloody super lenses :woot:

I give you 12 months tops before you own at least ONE L mate :D
Then there's no going back......

Pftttt, sell it, with speed cameras everywhere the extra hp is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot.
A cheap car will still get you from A-B in the same time but L glass will make the world of difference :D

You will regret starting this thread

No speed limits at Santa Pod :D

Yeah I'm thinking that already..... :help::lol:

Yes but it's been know that a few engines have blown up there.
Needless to say that won't happen with L glass ;)

... writes a letter to Essex council about new speed cameras :rules:

Even the extra load of petrol could cost an L lens a year. My Clio 1.2 is bad enough!
