Edit My Images
Yes
so I'm about to take delivery of a sigma 17-50 and will be looking to have another lens with a longer zoom to go with it!
I've had the 55-250 before and thought it produced really good images and have heard some good things about the new STM version, but am thinking I'd like to maybe step up from that!
So I Spose my options are Tamron vc /canon non L
70-300
Canon 70-200 f4 with or without IS
The only thing that puts me off the 70-200's is the attention it drawes in the fact it's not black!!
It's only a hobby and don't want to stick like a sore thumb, but I do like the look of the images they produce with the constant av!!
Just to say they'll be on a 40d!!

Hi I have a 40D also, and a 70-200 f4 non IS. I love that lens and will never sell (well barring total bankruptcy). I've not tried the 22-250 to compare, if if you were happy with I suppose no reason to change, but I remember first using the 70-200 and thinking wow. I would go for a second hand 70-200 myself.

I've used the 17-55IS, 18-55 Kit Lens, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 100-400, 70-200 and sigma 100-300 f2.8, 28-135IS and by far my two most preferred lenses are the 85 1.8 and the 70-200 (that is admitedly also to do with me preferring a slightly longer focal length) - can't really say anything against the 17-55 but I prefer the others.

Do u not hav the 55 250 anymore? What will u use the lens for and whats ur budget?

I don't have it anymore was 2 or 3 years ago and a newer body! (Long story) so am starting again, I suppose at a push with I might stretch to the 70-200 f4/is. But wander if I could get away with a non IS I suppose it's all about keeping the s***ter speed high!

tamron and sigma do black 70200 2.8
I don't know how they compare pricewise to canon

This is the problem I think, I'm not wanting a 2.8 it's just to much of a lump to carry around, didn't no tamron did a 70-200 though! The sigma spent look much smaller than the 150-500!!

Forget about it being a white lens or black lens, buy what you actually need, my 500mm f4 sticks out, do I care, nope, took me a few years to save up and it's take the images I want, not a pro, bought the lens because I wanted it for aviation, wildlife and Motorsport.

As you your next lens, depends on your budget? And how bigger zoom prime you want. Depends what you want to use it for?

Affordable primes like the canon 300mm f4 IS (wildlife, aviation, motorsport) or 400mm f5.6 lens (birds, wildlife)
Sigma 50-500mm OS or 150-500mm OS or 150-600mm or tamron's 150-600mm
Sigma 120-400mm or Canon's 100-400mm
Sigma 70-200mm or Canon's 70-200mm (f4 f4 IS, f2.8, f2.8 IS MKI or MKII)
Sigma 120-300mm (f2.8, f2.8 OS or f2.8S OS)
Tamron 70-300mm VC or Canons 70-300mm L

Take advantage of buying used and you'll get more for your $$$, another lens that's been discontinued, but comes up for sale now and again is the Sigma 100-300mm f4 great lens

So lots of options depending on your budget
