Need a new bag

I currently have a Lowepro Nova Mini AW bag, however with a recent purchase of the Nikon AF-S 70-300 I need a larger bag.

What do people recommend?

My Dad's got a Slingshot 100AW, and it looks like quite a nice bag, but I want to get something different :lol:

I need to fit in it:
D40x with 18-55mm kit lens attached (or possibly the 18-105 if I buy it)
Nikon AF-S 70-300mm lens separately
Space for filters (currently only a polarizer, but could get more in the future.

I don't want a backpack type bag, because I want to be able to get at my equipment quickly, without having to take the bag off, and I think a backpack is a little on the large side for what I need.

So, does anyone know of a good bag they would recommend to fit my criteria, as I have no idea :shrug:

Well I have just ordered a Lowepro SlingShot 202AW and just like any of the slingshots I am sure they all swing to the front for easy access without removing the bag.

Mine was reduced from £70 - £38 at Amazon
 
Thanks for the info, but I was thinking the 202 might be a little on the large side, as I don't think I'll be buying much more equipment for a while. What equipment are you planning to keep in yours?

I don't have loads of gear, well I have 3 cameras but that's a different story.

In the bag I will keep

Nikon D90

Tamron 70-300mm lens

Nissin Flash

Batteries, memory cards etc.....
 
I have a bag for every occasion (almost) but I think the Crumpler shoulder type bag is the coolest I have two different sizes and they come in fantastic colours I have a cranberry coloured one with a blue interior
Crumpler 490 Daily L Red and a smaller bronze colour muffin top 7500 both great bags I can get one telephoto lens and a body with a smaller lens in the 7500 but the other can carry everything including the laptop hidden away in a secret compartment.:)

I am in and out of Sheffield all the time. I use a Domke F2 and a Lowepro for 'quick' jobs.

If you would like, we can meet up for a brew and you can have a good 'look-see' what these bags are like etc.

Entirely up to you; it may help your descision making.

Interesting for me, as I just bought a new camera (still waiting for delivery) and dont think my present bag (Tamrac System 6) will hold all. I also have an Aluminium case which might well hold everything, but it's so bloody heavy!

Alistair thanks for the offer, however with now being at Uni at Loughborough, I'm hardly in Sheffield any more! :(

Thanks Richard - just keep the offer in mind just in case.

A couple of thoughts for all regarding bags:

1. Have you narrowed your 'field' of photography i.e. country (landscapes); wild life; motor racing etc?

2. If you have. then my advice would be to sell whatever is not in that 'field' and then see about a 'good quality' bag.

3. Have two bags A. A grab & go with minimum kit (always with you regardless - you have to be where the picture is, it ain't going to come/wait for you) B. Your main gear bag, kitted and ready always.

This is purely an example:- A Protest I attended recently when the heavens opened. The camera was continually used with lens on front (obviously) everything wet - it is a tool! The bag (Domke F2) was as dry-as-a-bone inside. The bag was not cheap but, in 10 years time, I will be writing the same things regarding it. My bag is also a tool and is not wrapped in cotton wool either.

So in short, think 'out of the box' and committ to buy quality and use, use
and use.

Seems rather cheap and possilby too good to be true? (Fake?)

Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home

I'm reading through some magazines my father-in-law lent me and it turns out the September edition of Photography Monthly had a test on shoulder (messenger) bags. The Domke F-2 came out top and I do like the look of it. The price is slightly off-putting, but I'm happy to pay for quality. The only other things that put me off are the waterproofness (it's canvas) and the fact it's just got a flap lid. I'm worried about weather getting underneath and also the hands of thieves.

Another bag in the test which caught my eye was the Vanguard Up-Rise 38. I came across this bag earlier this evening whilst surfing and the series has received a TIPA award. Price is very reasonable and I like the rain coat.

The magazine also rates the Calumet CV998 (best budget buy). I might need a bigger version to house my 7D + 70-200 and found the CV1428.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of the latter two bags?

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread. I'll start another if required.
