need a re-think now on the new sport lens

Thought i was sold on the tamron 70-300 VC but....

yesterday i was at my regular patch (motocross track) i have full rome around rights to the whole track to shoot so decided to use just my 50mm 1.8 all day and get up close and personal, dont think i need much longer now so am considering a shorter lens but needs to be sharp and pretty fast for MX maybe up to up to 100mm'ish give or take a bit but i think for me now sharpness is more important than reach..

will prob go used and have about £300'ish to spend at the moment, Nikon fit..


any advice ?

24-70 f/2.8 of some variety. A good copy of the Sigma can be very good and will be a LOT cheaper than the Nikkor.
