need Advice on wide lens for sony

Right im looking at getting a new wide angle lens for my sony 580
I've already read through some article on these lens from here but well they made it more difficult for me to decide on which lens to get.

Im mostly into Landscape and starscape (dunno its real name) Photography, as well as a number of different types but those are my main reasons for looking at these two particular lens... p.s I know this has been covered before.

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, the 2.8 being the attractive part for late night star photography, and versitile for indoor photography
or
Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 the 8mm being the attractive part for day time landscapes and seascapes.. where i normally spend my time in higher f7-11s and could prove to be good in out door and close up photography.

is 11mm more then enough? or is f4.5 do able?

to those who have previously asked and made their choices how have you found them?

Give Les325 a message.. He shoots on Sony and has a sigma 10-20 with his! Very good combo IMO!
 
The original Sigma 10-20 is very nice, I had one of those for a while with my A700. I haven't tried the newer version with constant maximum aperture.

I currently use the Minolta 17-35/3.5 which is lovely and works on full frame (which the 10-20 doesn't). On my A900 its plenty wide enough.
 
ok yeah im finding that I constantly use my standard lens at its widest which is 18, I've seen the tamron 10-24mm in action which is ok, which is what got me looking into and ultra wide angle lens

but has anyone tried either of those two lens?
 
I haven't, and since they are both crop sensor only lenses, I won't in future.

You could try asking on dyxum or checking the reviews in the lens database there (if any).
 
I shoot on a crop nikon d300 - links in the sig to pics from the tokina 11-16.

Lovely lens, works well on a crop and worth the money.

At 11mm I can stand approx 50cm from a person and get them all in the picture. Warping is only noticable nearer the edges.

Worth borrowing if you aren't sure about buying it.
 
Hi i shoot with an a580 and bought the samyang 8mm fisheye for doing startrails althogh ive not had much chance to go out and shoot yet
 
I got a Sony 11-18mm DT second hand recently. It does the job but CA needs correction in post processing and it's not all that sharp in the corners. I won't be going above A4 and there's no point in cropping a wide angle shot and for that it'll do a fairly decent A4 photo once the CA has been rectified. I can't grumble as it was cheap, but I should have got the Tokina 11-16mm. I think you should too. :)
 
yea I think it looks like the tokina i'll be getting, especially I've been trying to get milky way shots with my f3.5 and thats no good, I just get star trails which I don't won't. thanks for the feed back guys arkadarka how'd you find the samyang i noticed they where much cheaper then most lens?
 
great not been out much with it yet bought it for my trip to see the northan lights and for doing star trails im concidering a go to mount for actual star field pictures now tho
