Looking for a 24mm lens for my Nikon D4 without breaking the bank on the f1.4G version.
Have read a lot of good comments on the older f2.8 AF D at a third of the price or less and I realise it lacks the features of the latest lens.
However it seems to be highly thought of. I only want it for landscapes and would like to hear from any of you who have experience of this lens.

Assuming you mean the 24mm f/2.8 then it's a nice lens and should work great on the D4 for landscapes. It lacks a bit on the new high MP cameras but on a 16mp sensor it should be great.

Thanks Nawty thats what I wanted to hear. Yes its the 'old' 24mm f2.8. It gets plenty of good reviews. I also have the D600 so do you think it might be a bit dodgy with that?

I had one for a while, and found it a bit meh on a 24mpx sensor. It wasn't terrible but wasn't great either. But it made up for all of this by being small and light!

I've had a Nikon 24mm f2.8D lens for quite a while having used it on a D7000 and then D600 and found it to be fine one I adjusted via the focus adjust settings on the body.
I've not found it to be as good on the 36mp D800 however but I'm not sure I've ever had to adjust it, I'm sure it would be fine on the 16mp D4 sensor though, I had been thinking about the 16mp Nikon DF and the 24mm was one of the lenses I'd had in mind for that!

My dad gave me his Nikon 28mm f2.8 AI couple of years ago when he dig his nikkor film camera out somewhere in the house. I've been using the manual focus 28mm f2.8 AI recently on my D700 and D3. The image quality is fantastic and sharp.
