Need help choosing a camera- the BBC to the rescue

Just came across this- had a quick scan but couldn't see it posted-doesn't mean I haven't missed it- been a bit busy

It's obviously high level and you could accuse it of being gadget show-esque and glossing over some important points but there is some truth in there. I tend to use my phone and DSLR and although I was going to replace my compact with the P7000 until I tested it and found it was rubbish, I don't actually miss not using one now.
The cameras on phones aren't too bad these days and I don't go anywhere without my phone so it's almost the weapon of choice.

My camera phone takes ok snaps but highlights blow out easily and I always wish I'd used something better.

I have an Ixus but it's pretty disappointing and I personally think that something like a LX5 offers the minimum acceptable quality, MFT being better.
So, when I don't want to take an SLR I take MFT or LX5, even the Ixus isn't good enough.

Murphys law will always dictate that you won't have the right camera/lens when that "shot" comes up, they always present themselves when I've left the telephoto/macro in the car!

That's why the bridge camera with the longer zoom is the perfect travelling companion for most of the time and why I'm a lazy swine with a 28-300 hyperzoom with macro on my slr when I go out. It avoids the whole issue of having the wrong lens on!
