Right, firstly hello everyone!

Not really introduced myself on here but I've just bought a 40D in the classifieds and I need some accompanying gear.

I previously had a 350D with the kit lens and a nifty fifty. I love the nifty and I love bokeh.

I'd like 3 lenses plus the 50 I guess. 10-20 range, something in the 20-70 and then upto the 200.

I'm thinking MAX £1500 hopefully including a bag.

Is there much difference between the 10-20 canon and sigma? I've used the sigma on a Nikon D40 borrowed from a friend and loved it.

I'd much prefer to buy right first time so if i need to save then so be it. I'm torn between the 10-20 variants and either a 24-105/24-70L.

I shoot mostly street/cars/portraits.

Any help massively appreciated, also any suggestions on bag would be great. Backpack preferred.

Oh I have a Manfrotto 190XPROB and 804RC2 head.

if you can afford it go 70-200/2.8L but it will push your budget fairly hard, might be worth thinking on once you have played with the f4

also consider 50/1.4 over 1.8 (mine SHINES on my 5dII)
 
The Sigma 10-20 is a good lens, the Canon 17-55 is supposed to be a belter of a lens, the Canon 70-300IS or poss the 70-200 L series, depending on budget left :thumbs:

I've got my heart set on L glass, its probably well above me but having used the 24-70 and 5d in a shop everything else feels so... light! ;)

How about either tokina or canon for the 10-20 range then a canon 24-70L and when funds allow a 70-200L or sigma equiv? Will I be blown away by the 24-70?

I'll probably buy second hand to save a little.
 
Argh I just crumbled and bought the 24-70L from one stop!

I think most people would love to own a 24-70 f/2.8 L so i'm sure you will be pleased with it.

I was in the same dilemna myself recently.......except I bought my lenses first and then picked up a used 40D.

I was torn between the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM and the 24-70mm f/2.8 L.......I ended up going for the 17-55 because I got an amazing deal I thought. Managed to get an immaculate 17-55mm f/2.8 AND a Sigma 10-20mm for £730 in total. I just couldn't let it pass by.....and I haven't regretted yet. I think as well on a crop body, the 17-24mm focal range becomes real useful I find as a walkabout lens, and it means not having to switch to the 10-20mm every time I would like something a little wider. This was one of the deciding factors for me, plus, the fact that the 17-55mm has IS is a great advantage, AND it is cheaper than the 24-70 f/2.8 L.

Roll on next month so I can spend some more ;)
