Hello

I have a sony dsc h9, and i want to go into dslrs to improve my photography. But i am not sure what to buy. i saw canon 450d and sony alpha 350. But my question is, is it that much of abig leap between the camera that i already have, and the 2 i mentioned?? i know dslrs are of course much better than bridge cames, but whts the leap going to be? my budget is around the 2cams i mentioned, so do you guys suggest that i wait abit more and buy an even better than these 2 to make the jump worth it ?? Lenses do play a big role in cams, so what are ** suggestions. Am really itching for one of them and might buy one by the end of june, ive been researching for a long time now, but kind make up my mind.

Both of the cameras you mention(Sony A350 and Canon 450D) will be a huge step up in quality from your H9.

Get thee to a photography shop and play with some, but the jump up is well worth it.

Start with the kit lens, play with it and work out what areas you'll want to expand into - people run down the kit lenses all the time, but frankly they are there to get you started and they do a fantastic job.

Cheers,
James

Also worth looking at 2nd hand models.

You can pick up a Canon 30D and a better than kit lens for that sort of money.

yeah - I'd seriously consider getting a non kit lens, something of a fixed focal length (which means not a zoom lens) like a 50mm or 35mm. You'll have to move around a bit while taking photos but, with the wider aperture, will give you more flexibility in terms of low light and depth-of-field. This will help you learn the basics of SLR photography and have you taking better photos as a result...

i wouldnt get an a350 as the viewfinder is terribly small

you ar emuch better off with the sony a200 or a700 as they have much bigger viewfinders
