Hi everyone,
i really need help in buying a camera (bridge/compact camera)like the Fuji finepix HS10 but not as expensive. i would prefer if the camera had a manual/ twist zoom not the electronic zoom's; dont really like them. i would like at least 10x optical zoom and good quality photos. not to bothered about video as dont really have anything to record. Thanks for your help.:thumbs:http://www.ukparknews.co.uk

Whats your budget?
The HS10 is available from the fujishop as a refurb for £269.99 with a free case worth £30.

my budget would be around the £250 mark + My brother has the Hs10 and i dont really want to have the same camera as him. thanks for the help.

A used fuji?

As far as I know they are the only makers of bridges with a twisty zoom, although happy to be corrected.

Why do you not want the same camera as your bro? It is excellent.

My brother will keep going on at me for coppying his camera. i agree it is an excelent piece of equipment:)

How much did he pay?

At least you could counter him if yours cost less.

I don't think there is anything similar in the marketplace at the moment, they all have electric zooms. A used DSLR for that money may do, but you won't have the focal range and will be into the whole buying new lenses thing.....

I would still go for the HS10. In camparison the 2800hd is not on the same level and may leave you dissapointed if you have already tried and liked the HS10. You'll get frustrated by the startup time and the lack of the twist zoom.

You could look at a used S9600, which would set you back aroudn £100-£120. I would say this is better than the 2800hd, but not a patch on the HS10

the HS10 lens is 58mm and where i use it (concets etc) has a restriction of 55mm so arent allowed to use it inside

Do you mean focal length or diameter? THe HS10 has a Diameter of 58mm - meanign it takes a 58mm filter thread.

Focal length wise it is 24mm at the short end.

If you don't want a HS10, fair enough, I'll stop gong on about it.

The only thing I will say is that seeing as you have used one, and liked it, and it is the most advanced bridge that Fuji jave made, anything else will probably disappoint you.

You could look at a used DSLR body, and get a 50mm lens on it. That would be a fixed focal length, so the only zoom you would have would be your feet, but you have said you want a compact.

One of the panasonic G1's may suit, but no idea on price.
