I have bought a 2nd hand Eos 20D and have not had a problem transferring photos from the camera to my laptop (windows xp). It never asked me to install any software etc. and just came up on the list of devices. The problem is that I have now bought a new laptop which is windows 7 and it wont recognise the device when I connect to it. It says there are no drivers installed. I had a look on the internet for some drivers (I have not got a disc) but can not find anything. I also do not know what I am supposed to be looking for really

PLEASE can someone point me in the right direction as it is driving me nuts :help:

Any help much appreciated and apologies if this is in the wrong section.

You're after an EOS Digital Solution Disk by the sounds of it. However, you should be able to download the software (EOS Utility) from the Canon website I think. Do a search on their site.

Alternatively someone on here may send you a disk over for you to borrow. I can't help there though.

It would appear Canon don't have an original copy of the software to download :( All they have on their website are updates.

If you're after a copy of the CD, you'll need to buy one from Canon, or borrow one from someone :)

AFAIK, Canon's DPP software works with all their DSLR's.

Ceri, I've never used Windows 7 by my guess is that it doesn't support the 20D without the canon drivers which would be on a disc that normally comes with the camera, but are also available from the canon support web site Personally i would not bother with the software as i try to keep my computer as free from third party software as poss, My suggestion would be to buy a multicard reader and just plug your CF card into it, the computer should the automatically ask you wear you want the pictures downloaded too

Thanks guys! I will go and have a read and play. I will let you if I get anywhere :'(

Update! MOH found the Canon Dgital EOS Solution Disk which I installed onto laptop. I then went to use the EOS viewer and it crashed saying that windows could not find a solution for the problem. It also does nt come up on the devices list. So the end result is that it clearly does not work with windows 7 :'(

I can not find anything online for windows 7 or vista so it seems that Siomn's solution i.e. card reader is my only option. I just hope that works otherwise I will be chucking the laptop (with newly installed CS4 premium) out of the window, quickly followed by myself

Does the camera have the latest firmware? I had a weird issue with XP x64 and 30D ages ago (now a happy osx user). It only took a ROM flash to get working. Also try emailing Canon support.

Failing that get a card reader, they are cheap.

Have a read of this to talk to the camera then this to add raw support to windows.

I :love:you! I followed the links and read the advice and changed the settings and hey presto! Seems it is a common problem so I dont feel so :amstupid:

Thanks very much!
