Need opinions on new (old) lens

Just bought a Vivitar 28mm f2.5 lens from ebay, it's my first prime lens and cost me the princely sum of £30. It's a pre-AI manual focus (no metering) Nikon F fit lens.

I got downstairs past the dogs and kittens and realised I had no meter in my hand so guessed. What are your opinions on the larger sizes?
 
Some old lenses are still extremely good for the money. Especially 50mm primes which havent changed in design much over the previous 30 years. I suspect you can gt some good photos out of it.
 
That does look rather clear from CA and such. I'm guessing its stopped down a bit in that shot tho?

Whats it like wide open?

It was an insanely bright day, and as I was taking the photo I had a "hang on a second....where's the dog?"* moment and clean forgot what F stop it was set at, I do know it was focused at infinite. I have a nice wide and clear view I want to take a photo of tomorrow and test it properly. My main worry is that I've bought a lens that's worse than my 18-70 AF-S


*being chased by security guards round the hospital as it happens *mumbles about £45 pound pick up fee* *mutters about the last time he goes out in the garden on his own* (he's a very elderly golden retriever, who loves people and cars and has never growled in his life, he isn't sorry - as far as he's concerned this was Best Day Ever)
 
I got that lens too - but a bit more pricy and poss a little older...

Tried manual before realising that you can leave on 'A' and the shutter changes auto ;) since on manual I was using the meter in the camera anyway...

Loved the width and the blur.. but wishing for AF (as manual focussing is a) slow and b) might miss)

Forgot to mention - on the 52 weeks link, some of the pics are with this lens...

That's exactly what I was looking for

Unfortunatly my camera just comes up with lens not attatched errors and you can only set shutter speed in manual. I'm waiting on the postman with a nicer light meter as the ones I have are all a bit hit and miss or there is no way I'm having them outside (I collect vintage light meters)

One of my dogs with it on f 2.5 at a speed of 1/40 (she freezes when she sees the camera, you got no chance with the others)
