need some help finding hard drive

I have just had another hard drive put in my PC, problem is "my computer" doesn't recognise it.

I run windows XP and when I go into "system properties" and "hardware" it recognises the additional drive.

Any one got any ideas?
 
It will not be formatted
 
Goto Start/control panel/administrative tools/ computer management/storage/disk management

you may need to make the disk active

Al the options for disks are in there.

Come back if you get stuck.
 
If it is found in hardware and not in my computer, it sound like it needs to be partioned and formatted.

Right click on 'my Computer' select manage
then disk management, select the new drive and create a partion then format it.
 
Thanks for that I now have a working backup disk in my computer, Will still carry on with a remote back up though.

The next question is there a programme available that will automatically back up my files?
