Noobie needs more help here team :)

Not long had my Tamron f2.8 17-50mm for my sony A450 and im smitten with it, great lens. Now, im after a similar quality telephoto lens, when i say quality i mean build quality, dont need one as fast as the 2.8. sorta 200mm (maybe more, not bothered). Main thing is im after a non rotating front element so using cokin's doesnt get annoying. Im not exactly loaded but im not after buying one right now anyway as my tax rebate wont be here () until next month, im just after af ew recommendations from you wise bunch. Budget up to £200 and i would probably be using the second hand market so if you guys know rough prices that'd be great. This wont be a primary lens as i tend to do more wide stuff but it will literally just compliment my 17-50mm for landscapes, will probably stay in my bag most of the time.

Thanks all :)

Your not gonna find a non rotating front element for that price.

I would suggest saving more and if you like the tamrons have a look at the new 70-300, or a little more for the 70-200 F2.8

I've got two of the Sony 70-300G lenses (note the G - it's their pro range) for sale. One is second hand at £430 and the other is factory sealed, bought from Jessops with 11 month warranty from Jessops - this one's at £550 (RRP is £699).

Ok, hard sell over, I would recommend the above lens for the sharp image and quick focusing but the Tamron 70-300 at around £160 new or £100 SH isn't a bad lens (but pretty sure it rotates) and the bulid is a bit naff.

If you want to go very long at a light weight and fixed length the 500mm f8 mirror lens is amazing. Took this image with it, don't think there was much cropping by me though. Bokeh is a bit funky, and err... actually you can't use filters so don't really know why I'm recommending it cos won't serve your needs!

But yeah, the Sony G 70-300 is a very nice lens and apparently better than the Nikon/Canon equvilents. Go over to Dyxum to read reviews.

Sweet thanks all, im in no major rush for it so i think i might just save for the Sony G lens. Ive been considering a switch over to canon so if the G lens really is better than others then i might stick with sony.

Thanks all :)
