Morning everyone,

I am looking for some advice on getting A3 prints done. I havent really had any large scale prints done before so dont really know where to start.

I have the photos ready and processed that i would like to print but how do i know if they will be the right size/resolution/dpi?

The may well sound like quite nooby questions so sorry for that but any advice is much appreciated!

My advice would be to find out where you are getting it printed and what their processing requirements are, e.g. do you need to have it the correct size at a certain dpi (300/360)? Have you cropped the image to the correct aspect ratio for A3? If not your print may have white bits, or be cropped, but possibly not how you would have cropped it.

My workflow for preparing an image for print (once I have done all the general processing) is:
Crop to the correct aspect ratio (for A sizes this is 1:1.41)
Check the image size at 360dpi (we use 360dpi for printing), if it is larger (or smaller within 30%) than the required print size (297mm × 420mm for A3) I will resize the image to the required size at 360dpi resampling the image. If the image would need to be enlarged by more than 30% I would resize to the required print size, but at 180dpi (other printers may ask for 200dpi or 150dpi). Obviously the print quality will not be as good close up, but if the file isn't big enough something has to give.
Once at the print size sharpen.
